African Music on the Takeover

African music is getting major attention from the International audience. The inclusion of the African category in BET awards have given African artists an international stage. Talented acts- Davido, Wizkid, Olamide, AKA, Diamond are now known around the world. With a verse on Drake's “One Dance,” Wizkid became the first Nigerian artist to land on the U.S. charts, as well as the first to top them. South Africa’s Black Coffee became the first South African to win a BET Award this year.

This desire for African music in the states saw the creation of the One Africa Festival in Brooklyn that spotlighted America's love for Afrobeats. This year Wizkid and Swizz Beats took to the stage for an epic live collabo. Given the fact aht Davido signed deals with Meek Mill and Major Lazer it is apparent that Afropop is breaking into the U.S. mainstream.
